Five doctors killed in fatal accident on Lucknow-Agra expressway

A terrible road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district early Wednesday morning left five doctors dead and one seriously injured.

The incident took place at around 3 AM when a speeding Scorpio SUV, which was travelling from Lucknow to Agra, lost control at a turn and crashed into a divider. The vehicle then crossed to the opposite lane, into which it was hit by a truck coming from the other side.

Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand said all five doctors succumbed on the spot. The only one who survived, Jaiveer Singh, 39-year-old student of post graduation from Saifai Medical College was immediately rushed to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Medical College at Tirwa for treatment.

The deceased have been identified as Dr. Anirudh Verma, 29, of Agra; Dr. Santosh Kumar Maurya, 46, of Bhadohi; Dr. Arun Kumar, 34, of Kannauj; Dr. Nardev, 35, of Bareilly; and Rakesh Kumar, 38. The doctors were attached to the Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, and were returning from a marriage in Lucknow when this tragic incident happened.

According to Circle Officer Dr. Priyanka Bajpai, the bodies have been sent for postmortem, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
