Five terrorists were killed on Thursday morning (Dec 19) in an encounter in the Kadder area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district in a major successful operation by Indian security forces. Security forces earlier said that a group of terrorists was trapped after suspicious activity was observed in the area. During the cordon and search operation, terrorists opened fire on the forces, which led to a gunbattle.
Indian Army had earlier stated that, based on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists, a joint operation was launched with the Jammu and Kashmir Police at Kader in Kulgam. Vigilant troops witnessed suspicious activities, and after being challenged, terrorists unleashed indiscriminate and heavy firing. “Own troops have effectively retaliated. Operation is still going on,” the army added.
Sources have revealed that, during the initial gunfire in the area, two security forces soldiers were left injured, evacuated, and taken to the Army’s base hospital. The security forces launched a massive search operation at the place. The terrorists’ identities, however, could not be ascertained so far since the operation is still going on.
