A forensic report by the CFSL has found no signs of scuffle or resistance at the crime scene in the seminar room of Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital, where the trainee doctor was raped and murdered.
The body of the trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall on August 9, triggering countrywide outrage and weeks of protests by healthcare professionals. The CBI filed a charge-sheet against Sanjay Roy, the prime accused, a civic volunteer attached to the Kolkata Police.
A team of experts from CFSL, on August 14, examined the hospital premises and collected the samples from the alleged crime scene at the seminar hall, the mattress on the wooden stage where the assault reportedly took place.
CFSL report said, “The cut mark portions observed on this mattress were reasonably corresponding to the head and lower abdomen area of an injured victim who stated or happens to be lying on this mattress.” It, however, added that “the evidence of a possible struggle shown by the victim with the assailant or fight in between them was found missing” in the seminar hall.
The forensic investigation has also proved that “no biological stains” were found on or around the wooden stage or on the remaining part of the floor of the seminar hall, except on the mattress itself. These have led some to speculate that the crime may not have taken place in the seminar hall.
The report further highlighted that there was a low possibility of entering into the seminar hall unnoticed. It further emphasized, “There is less possibility that somebody could enter the seminar hall unnoticed, given official people in the 24×7 operational hospital corridor and the area containing the doctor’s duty-nursing station.”
Revelations have, till date, deepened intrigue into the case. That has stirred calls for further investigations in the circumstances of this heinous crime.
