The MCD, according to Former Delhi LG Najeeb Jung, has rampant ‘corruption’; namely, bribery and failure to implement and enforce rules and regulations, which he suggests contributed to the heinous crime of UPSC aspirants’ deaths in Delhi.
Speaking to ABP Live, ex-Delhi L-G Najeeb Jung expressed his dismay and views at that time regarding three UPSC aspirants’ unfortunate demise due to the water logging that happened in the basement coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. Pertinently, Jung drew the Center’s attention to corruption in MCD and demanded reform to stop such acts.
Jung, reminiscing over the episode, said, “Three students died; just recently, a student was electrocuted to death. This is not why these things happen, but who is responsible?”
Students come to Delhi for a better future. Is their life not worthwhile? Corruption begins from peons to MCD officials. It is a well-known fact that bribes are demanded for posts, appointments, transfers, and even to clear files.
Jung elaborated on the ‘corruption’ in MCD, arguing that ‘Absolute corruption is there in MCD, starting from peons to the top officials asking for bribes, and it is surprising that people do not question this.’
While mourning over tragic incidents, Jung said the Prime Minister also feels sad, as do others, but only for a short time and nothing changes further, pointing out that committees are formed but recommendations are dismissed if they go against officials.
