Former India Hockey captain Prabodh Tirkey quits Congress, citing humiliation

The Serving Captain of India’s hockey prior Congress, – Prabodh Tirkey, has resigned from the Congress party and states the humanity he got from the Congress party made him feel humiliated. Tirkey, who resigned from his job at Air India in September 2023 to join the party, was elected as the Congress contest for the Talsara Assembly seat of the Sundargarh Lok Sabha constituency in the state of Odisha. Nevertheless, he was later removed from the party’s second list of candidates, as indicated on the April 14 verification process.

For his part, Tirkey, not being satisfied with the decision, noted that when choosing to elect Congress only he was assured of getting the ticket for MLA. He was transferred from the secretariat and he set himself up for the job in the constituency and when they announced his name in the list, he became so joyful. Moreover, he became confused and bored because the main character was suddenly replaced with no explanation.

Tirkey confessed his sorrow, stressing that his family members are beyond the party line and being kept out of the team. He wondered what the meaning of staying in the party was if they were witnesses to such treatment. According to CCPAC, Tirkey’s name was off the list of candidates because they felt that Bhitaria would get more votes because he was aware of the local people and their problems.

Unlike before, the BJP had taken the local Congress stronghold and won the seat in the previous Assembly election. The younger brother, Probodh Tirkey, of the former captain of the Indian hockey team, Ignace Tirkey, is an ace hockey player, winning the Asia Cup in 2007 for India.

The move of a prominent party member like Tirkey to another party, along with the political transition, will be carefully observed by the voters in the coming State Legislature and Lok Sabha elections, commencing from May 13 and concluding on June 1.
