Nitin Gadkari was speaking in Lok Sabha. While speaking in Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said contractors found guilty of corruption will be crushed under bulldozers, following which the House laughed. The minister was replying to questions raised by MP Hanuman Beniwal over road safety in India.
Beniwal said he had asked the Centre a question related to the “technical flaws” on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. To this, Gadkari replied, “We will crush contractors under bulldozers if they are found guilty of corruption. We will not compromise on anything.”
Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm on Thursday, given certain remarks by BJP member Nishikant Dubey and an opposition uproar over violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal. The very moment Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took up the Zero Hour at noon, the opposition members stormed the Well of the House, asking to be permitted to raise the subject of violence in Sambhal.
The Speaker said he would permit some opposition members to raise the issue after Dubey submits before the House. Trouble broke out when Dubey sought to draw some linkages between a foreign investor and a section of opposition leaders and claimed an international conspiracy was afoot to derail India’s success story under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In the din, the Speaker summoned Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi to raise the issue of violence in Sambhal. Gogoi attempted to counter Dubey’s allegations, leading to uproar in the House. The Speaker adjourned proceedings as unruly scenes continued in the House.
