Good Touch, Bad Touch’ program exposes UP school sex assault

Many parents, led by their village head, approached a police station and demanded action against the teacher.

New Delhi: A teacher at a school in Uttar Pradesh’s Lalitpur district has been arrested for allegedly making the girl students from Classes 1 to 3 massage him under his clothes, an activity he had been keen on – without the children knowing what he was up to.

A considerable section of parents, led by the village head, paraded around a police station to protest against action being taken against the teacher.

The village head, Roop Singh, said another teacher had met the students to discuss ‘good touch, bad touch.’ The children, referring to what would constitute a ‘bad touch,’ accused that the other teacher did it with them often, the village head said.

The shocked teacher realized what had been going on. The accused teacher had been sexually assaulting the girls for long.

‘Good touch, bad touch’ is taught in most schools at a very tender age. That is because children may not recognize immediately what is sex assault.

Thousands of people, including students, gathered in front of the police station in Talbehat of Lalitpur and demanded prompt action. The villagers claimed the school and education officials tried to downplay the issue.

Following protests, the police lodged a case against the teacher and arrested him.
