Google announced the availability of a new artificial intelligence model from the Gemini 2.0 family, called Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced. The large language model will be available only to paid subscribers of Gemini. Recently, the company rolled out the Gemini 2.0 Flash model in the Gemini Android app. Currently, the Experimental Advanced model is available only through the web version of the AI chatbot.
In a blog post, Google described the release of this new model, officially coded as Gemini-Exp-1206. Users will find it available for selection in the model switcher option at the top of the chatbot’s web interface, but only Gemini Advanced subscribers can use it at this time.
Interestingly, the name Gemini-Exp-1206 was first noted last week when the model topped the Chatbot Arena, formerly known as LMSYS, LLM Leaderboard with a score of 1374, outpacing the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT-4o and the Gemini 2.0 Flash model.
The Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced model is said to perform much better, especially in tasks that require complex processing, such as coding, math, reasoning, and instructions. It’s touted by Google as being able to give detailed, multi-step instructions for DIY projects, an area where previous models have struggled.
But Google has cautioned that this model is currently an early preview and may sometimes not work as well as many might expect. It also will not have real-time information access and will not be compatible with some of the features of Gemini, though the company has not specified which features are impacted.
Gemini Live, part of the Gemini Advanced subscription, will be available through the Google One AI Premium plan, which costs ₹1,950 a month after a free trial for one month.
