The Indian government is still examining complaints regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s alleged dual citizenship, according to a reply before the Allahabad High Court recently. The court had asked about a petition that said Gandhi holds citizenship in the United Kingdom, and if it is true, his Indian citizenship would be revoked.
The petitioner, S. Vignesh Shishir from Karnataka, has also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the matter. Additional Solicitor General S.B. Pandey was asked to deliberate with the Home Ministry and file its response formally within three weeks for the next court date.
The Union Home Ministry said, “The representation received from the petitioner is under process. The same is posted for hearing on December 19, 2024. The outcome of the said representation shall be informed to the court on the next date.
Vignesh added confidently, “The court has ordered a final verdict on December 19. The Home Ministry has to report to the court.” He continued, “Now, I expect the government to expedite the process of stripping Rahul Gandhi of Indian citizenship, as we received it in writing from the UK government that his name is included in its citizenship list.”
Vignesh said, “As per Indian law, this is not allowed. The moment one gets citizenship of the other country, his or her Indian citizenship is automatically cancelled.
