The Indian government has recently established a committee of seven members to improve the legitimacy of the entrance examinations across the nation and monitor the working of the NTA.
The committee formed with K Radhakrishnan, the former chairman of ISRO, as the head, is all set to directly talk with the students and parents to know the best ways they think could ensure the making of an efficient and foolproof examination mechanism.
The functioning and working of the NTA, reform in the examination conducting process, protection of data and information, and other related issues have been set as the priority areas of the panel. The recommendations will be submitted to the education ministry in two months.
The chairman also stated that the committee’s primary objective is to hear from the students and parents, saying, “the top priority of the committee is to hear from the students and Parents of this country.” The panel intends to engage the stakeholders in the next two weeks using one of the following mediums.
This panel formation has ensued in the backdrop of some controversies regarding the irregularities in the conduction of NEET-UG, the cancellation of the UGC-NET due to a paper leak, and the postponement of CSIR-UGC-NET.
The government has decided on the action; the board chairman of the NTA has been dismissed, and an IAS officer has been appointed in his place.
The South Indian movie star Radhakrishnan’s call for developing a ‘strong, unadulterated system’ for computerizing the examination procedure sufficiently captures the government’s intention of maintaining fairness, effectiveness, and transparency.
