A grenade was hurled near TRC, which is located close to Lal Chowk in Srinagar, according to sources.
The injured are reportedly identified as Misba, about 17 years old; Azaan Kaloo, about 17 years old; Habibullah Rather, about 50 years old; Altaf Ahmad Seer, about 21 years old; Faizal Ahmad, about 16 years old; Uer Farooq, Faizan Mushtaq, about 20 years old; Zahid, about 19 years old; Gulam Muhammad Sofi, about 55 years old; and Sumaiya Jan, about 45 years old.
Four people were released after first aid was administered. Srinagar Deputy Commissioner Dr Bilal Mohidin said two injured would have to undergo surgery as their injuries were severe.
“We came here (the hospital) to meet the injured. They are undergoing treatment, and two patients will have to undergo surgery. Special care will be given, and the remaining injured will be released after treatment…” he said.
The security forces have launched a combing operation. J&K Police’s Special Operation Group is investigating the attack. The area was left panic-struck as shoppers ran for shelter after the blast.
A resident stated, “Nothing like this ever happened here. I don’t know what’s going on here for a few days now…
Even during the peak of militancy, Nothing like this ever happened.” The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir visited the injured civilians and assured them that strict action would be taken against the perpetrators of this crime.
