Groom leaves wedding over roti delay, marries another; bride files FIR

A strange incident was reported from Hamidou village of Chandausi district, Uttar Pradesh, where a groom walked out of his wedding due to a delay in serving food. The groom and his relatives became upset and left the bride waiting in her wedding attire. The bride later filed a complaint with the police.

According to reports, the bride’s marriage was fixed seven months back to a young man named Mehtab. On 22 December, the merriment of the marriage function had started with much jubilation. The bridegroom’s family was honoured with sweets and was later served food. However, one of the groom’s party was shouting that rotis <\em> were late.

The baraatis left, and they blamed the bride’s family for not pacifying the groom’s side. During the night, the groom disappeared, and shortly afterwards, he reportedly married a relative. This news brought a lot of grief to the bride’s family, who approached the Industrial Nagar Police Station to complain. They did not get any action done, so they went to the Superintendent of Police on December 24.

The bride’s family claimed a financial loss of Rs 7 lakh, including Rs 1.5 lakh in dowry sent to the groom’s house. The bride asked the SP to register five people from the groom’s side in an FIR and initiate legal proceedings against them.

The bride’s brother, Raju, said they were assured of action and directed the police to call them, but they haven’t received a call yet. He criticized the local police for inaction by pointing out that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had set up help desks for women in the police stations to redress grievances promptly.
