Haryana BJP leader killed in land dispute on Holi

In a chilling Holi encounter that left everyone in shock, a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Surendra Jawahar was gunned down on Holi over a piece of land rivalry with his neighbour in Haryana’s Sonipat, police said on Saturday.

Monu was the accused who fired three bullets into BJP’s Mundlana Mandal president Jawahar’s body on Friday night at Jawahar village. Gohana ACP Rishi Kant informed police received news about the murder of Surendra Jawahar by his neighbour Monu on Holi night at 9.30 pm.
According to the information, the police rushed to Jawahar village and constituted three teams to probe into the matter.

During a preliminary investigation, Surendra Jawahar was found to have purchased land from Monu’s uncle and aunt and the issue of property dispute was over it, the ACP further said. The shooter was identified as Monu, who fired three bullets into BJP’s Mundlana Mandal president Jawahar’s body during the night on Friday at Jawahar village.

Gohana ACP Rishi Kant reported that police received information regarding the murder of Surendra Jawahar by his neighbour Monu at 9.30 pm on the night of Holi. The police, acting on the information, reached Jawahar village and constituted three teams to investigate the case. A preliminary inquiry showed that Surendra Jawahar had purchased land from Monu’s uncle and aunt and the property dispute was in connection with it, the ACP added.

CCTV footage of the crime revealed that Surendra Jawahar went into a shop yelling “Maar diya maar diya (I have been killed)”. But Monu pursued and fired three shots at point-blank range from behind into the chest of Surendra Jawahar. The local leader of the BJP died instantly as a result of the gunshot wounds. Sadar Police Station has opened an inquiry into the matter.
