Maharashtra assembly polls, with 288 members, will be held on November 20, and the rest will be declared on November 23.
Party chief of NCP (SP) Sharad Pawar said Thursday that the BJP winning Haryana polls would not affect it in the next month’s Maharashtra assembly elections, where the party may regain power.
He said the outcome of the Jammu and Kashmir polls is essential for the nation as the union territory attracts a greater eyeball worldwide.
Talking to the press at Karad in Satara district, Mr. Pawar also said that with the unveiling of the new statue of Lady of Justice, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud has given new direction, as nobody else has thought of changing the changes so far.
Responding to a question on the strategy of the INDIA bloc after Congress’s debacle in the Haryana assembly elections, Pawar said the BJP was ruling that state and succeeded in retaining its power.
“We are studying Haryana, but at the same time, look at the results of Jammu and Kashmir (polls). I do not think that it (Haryana results) will have any bearing on the state’s (Maharashtra’s) elections.”.
Talking to reporters at his residence in Quaidabad, he said that the results of the Jammu and Kashmir elections were more critical for the country.
Still, unfortunately, they did not get as much attention from the world community as they should have because of the political rivalry and clash between the two parties.
Elections to the 288-member Maharashtra assembly will be held on November 20, and the results will be declared on November 23.
The BJP won an unprecedented third term in the state, securing 48 seats in the 90-member assembly, while the Congress grabbed 37 seats. Nayab Singh Saini will be its chief minister.
In Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, a countryman of Rahul Gandhi in the National Conference outfit, took the oath Wednesday as the chief minister in the first elected government in the union territory since 2019, when New Delhi abrogated the law that granted it special status.
