The heated debate over caste census rages in the Indian parliament

The demand for a caste census in India has recently again sparked controversy in the Indian Parliament, with the two political giants, BJP and Congress, engaged in a war of words.

The controversy was inaugurated by BJP MP Anurag Thakur, who seemingly raised doubts about the caste of the Congress party’s Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha, which caused signs of anger.

The BJP has come in support of Thakur and his speech, with their officials such as Amit Malviya and Sambit Patra counter-attacking on Congress. They abused the Congress by crossing all the bounds of behavior in the parliamentary system and doubted Rahul Gandhi’s caste.

In response, the Congress has said that the BJP is only laughing off the quest for caste census, which the BJP says is endorsed by 80% of Indians.

The opposition INDIA bloc headed by the Congress party has condemned what it says are the arrogant and evil comments of the BJP leaders. The Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi regret, said the party is standing up for the Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs and the caste census issue.

There has been increased political activity centering around the caste census, and the two political entities wish to frame themselves as advocates for the oppressed community.

The fate of the caste census also still hangs in the balance, with the government under increasing pressure from the opposition on this matter.
