Heatwave grips North; Rain lashes South as weather patterns shift

The northern part of the country is experiencing a high-intensity heat wave, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicates that the heat wave will persist in the upcoming week.

The IMD weather update states that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected in most parts of Rajasthan, in addition to several parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh, in the coming days.

It has also warned that only a few regions of Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha will experience heat waves from May 24 to May 27.

There is some heat buildup expected in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra for the next two days, and hot and humid conditions are expected in Assam, Konkan, and Goa in the next two to three days. The IMD has also warned for a warm night over Rajasthan, Punjab-Haryana-Chandigarh Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh.

While most of the northern areas continue to fry under the sun, the southern states prepare for the torrents. As per IMD, Very Heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on 24 May 2024 and over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Kerala on 25 May 2024. The Met Department has also issued a warning of isolated heavy rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the next two days.

Moreover, the IMD has predicted isolated heavy falls and isolated very heavy falls at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on the 26th and 27th of May 2024.

As conditions persist throughout the various areas of the country, the authorities and the people are concerned, hoping that there will be a break from the extreme weather patterns in the next few days.
