Heavy rains wreak havoc in Maharashtra, claim 3 lives

Out of seven lakes in Mumbai, two lakes are found to be in spate now. Pune collector Shas Dowse has appealed to people of the city to remain inside their houses.

As a result of heavy raining, the majority of areas in Pune have been waterlogged, and this has almost brought normal life to a standstill.

Some of them include schools that have been closed down and residential apartments in one of the cities of India, that is, Pune, particularly the area of Pimpri-Chinchwad, which has been flooded. There is a report that three people have died due to electric shock while crossing what has become a waterlogged street.

Chennai and neighboring city areas like Bangalore are also affected by rain, as are Mumbai and Thane. Severe water logging was reported in some regions of Andheri, Sion, Chamber, and Kurla, and in Mumba, a locality in Thane.

The recently constructed Andheri Subway in Mumbai has been closed due to water logging. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation stated that out of the seven lakes, which provide water to the city, Vehar Lake and Medak Sagar Lake started receiving excess water early today.

The storage reservoir capacities of the above-mentioned lakes are 2769 crore liters and 12,892 liters.

In Pune, three of the NDRF rescue groups are working at Ekta Nagar, Singed Road, and Verjee areas. Some places water is up to waist deep. The Baba Bide on the Mutha river had collapsed, and currently the bridge is submerged in water due to a rise in water level after the rains.

For this purpose, the Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Ajith Pawar, has reviewed the situation and called upon the district administration to be on his toes.

The collectorate of Pune, Ushas Iwase conducted a mass shutdown of the tourist destination for two days. He has also said traffic movement will be prohibited on bridges likely to be submerged.
