Hit-and-run at Kashi toll plaza: woman staffer injured, driver flees

Toll worker run over by car driver in Meerut after fare collection dispute.

In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman employee of Kashi Toll Plaza was mowed down by a car on Thursday after a dispute broke out over toll payment on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway in Uttar Pradesh.

Visuals captured on CCTV show the driver conversing with the worker and then ramming into her as she fell on the vehicle’s bonnet while it took off. Other toll staff rushed to rescue the grievously injured woman and shifted her to the hospital.

Toll Plaza manager Anil Sharma strongly condemned the act and demanded strict action against the absconding driver. He said the staff only asked for due fare collection, which sparked the gruesome retaliation by the Delhi-registered motorist.

The cold-blooded incident has sparked outrage, with authorities facing flak over the inadequate safety of toll personnel discharging their duties. Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused driver and ascertain the sequence of events behind this senseless act of violence.

Such aggressions against public servants call for stringent deterrents to curb recurrence. Well-wishers hoped the injured worker would receive the best medical care and the culprit would be immediately brought to justice.
