Horrific Ordeal of Visakhapatnam Law Student: Boyfriend and Friends Arrested for Gang-Rape.
In a disturbing incident that has shaken the state of Andhra Pradesh, a law student in Visakhapatnam was the victim of a horrific gang-rape by her own boyfriend and three of his friends. The traumatic event has led to a public outcry and criticism of the state government’s handling of the case.
According to Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi, the four accused have been identified as the survivor’s boyfriend, Vamsi, and his three friends. The police stated that Vamsi and the law student had been in a relationship for over a year.
On August 13, 2024, the main accused, Vamsi, allegedly took the law student to his friend’s room in Visakhapatnam’s Krishna Nagar, where she was sexually assaulted by the group. One of the accused even recorded the intimate moments, which were later used to blackmail the victim.
Vamsi and the three other accused then threatened the law student, warning her that they would leak the recorded videos. They subsequently carried out further acts of sexual assault against the traumatized woman.
Deeply shaken by the harrowing ordeal, the law student attempted to take her own life on November 18. However, she was saved by her quick-thinking father, who immediately reported the incident to the authorities.
The police have since arrested the four accused and registered a case under various sections of the law, including the Information Technology Act 2000 to 2008.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the ruling YSRCP party in Andhra Pradesh slamming the TDP government for the “incompetence” that has allowed such atrocities to occur.
In a scathing post on the social media platform X, the YSRCP stated, “Law student gang-raped by four youths in Visakhapatnam. The atrocity was filmed on a cellphone…The victim was threatened and repeatedly assaulted.
The victim attempted suicide after being harassed by the accused…Her father saved her. How many more girls and children should fall victim to the incompetence of the coalition government?”
The case has underscored the urgent need for stronger measures to ensure the safety and well-being of women in the state, as well as the call for swift and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
