How man accused of dismemberment fled Bengaluru to Odisha

Police probing the brutal killing of Mahalaxmi, whose body was chopped into 59 pieces, found out how Mukti Ranjan Roy managed to escape from Bengaluru to Bhadrak in Odisha after committing the gruesome act.

Mukti, it appears, confessed to both his younger brothers- one in Bengaluru and the other in Behrampore-about the murder, and both supported him with transportation.

The youngest brother, Smriti Ranjan, working in Bengaluru’s Hebbagodi, gave him a two-wheeler to leave the city. The second brother, Satya Ranjan Roy, stayed in Behrampore, picked him up when he reached there, and sheltered him for nine days until he moved to his home in Bhadrak on September 24.

Bengaluru police arrested Smriti Ranjan, the youngest brother, whom they also questioned in Odisha and Bengaluru. Satya told News18 over the phone from Behrampore that Mukti was frustrated with his relationship with Mahalaxmi and his job.

He even pleaded for money from his mother and brothers to invest in buying a car to drive a taxi in Bengaluru.

“We belong to an impoverished family, and we had no savings. He demanded Rs 1 lakh from us, but neither had that money. He wanted to shift from Mahalaxmi,” said Satya.
