Recently, at the SCO Summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, where they addressed early solutions to remaining issues in border areas.
Jaishankar said the two leaders pledged to “intensely use diplomatic and military actions to resolve border tension. ” Speaking about further developing relations with China, the minister stressed the importance of properly treating concepts such as the Line of Actual Control and the need to prevent incidents on the border with China.
The meeting is taking place during a stand-off between the two nations since the 2020 border clash in eastern Ladakh that claimed 20 Indian military personnel and several Chinese soldiers. There have been several meetings between the two sides, hence the engagement in rounds of talks, although the disengagement process has been slow.
Jaishankar further affirmed that the three guiding principles of ‘Change, respect, sensitivity and interest’ will define Indian-Chinese relations in the future.
Since oil transportation through pipelines from the Caspian region is the two nations’ outstanding geopolitical agenda, Astana offers the two foreign ministers the adequate opportunity to find a solution to the long-standing border problem, which has been the law of the Asian giants for many years.
