On December 5, Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said in a video on X, a social media platform: “A 410-metre Hyperloop test track is complete. Thumbs up to Team Railways, IIT-Madras’ Avishkar Hyperloop team and TuTr – an incubated startup.
Situated at IIT Madras’s Discovery Campus in Thaiyur, the test track will be developed in collaboration between Indian Railways, the Avishkar Hyperloop team, and TuTr. The ambitious project by the team eyes the development of state-of-the-art hyperloop technology for high-speed, affordable, reliable, and sustainable transportation solutions.
According to a press release, the first test run on the test track reached 100 km/h. Further testing phases will see the length of the track extended, with the hopes of reaching speeds of about 600 km/h.
If all goes well, Hyperloop technology can bring a revolution in urban mobility in India. This new form of transportation could complement the Metro Rail system and make a substantial difference in the country’s transit infrastructure.
