India objects to foreign remarks on Delhi CM’s arrest.
India has strongly objected to remarks made by the United States and Germany on the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India expects fellow democracies to respect its sovereignty and not interfere in internal matters. “Casting aspersions on India’s independent judiciary is unwarranted,” he stated.
The response comes after a US State Department spokesperson, and Germany commented on the legal proceedings against Kejriwal concerning an excise policy case.
Jaiswal pointed out that in diplomacy, countries are expected to respect each other’s sovereignty and internal affairs, especially fellow democracies. “Otherwise, it could set unhealthy precedents,” he noted.
The official emphasised that India’s legal system functions based on objective outcomes by an impartial judiciary. The comments signify India will not tolerate foreign influence on its internal dealings and democratic processes.
New Delhi has conveyed the importance of non-interference unambiguously to international partners. Observers say passing remarks on legal cases threatens India’s self-reliance.
