India ranked 3rd in asia power projection: report

Even as India overtook Japan to be ranked third in Asia, the Lowy Institute noted the Asia Power Index stated that India’s rise has been slower than expected.

According to the Australian think tank Lowy Institute, India is the third-most powerful nation in Asia after the United States and China.

Lowy’s ‘Asia Power Index’ 2024 update showed India leapfrogging Japan to third place in Asia, scoring 39.1 out of 100.
API placed Australia as the fifth most powerful nation in Asia.

The API has been issued when China increasingly demonstrates aggression in Southeast Asia and the broader Indo-Pacific region.

India, the United States, Japan, and Australia have partnered under multiple frameworks to respond to China’s expansionist aggression and hegemonic design.

Even as the United States ranks first, API says that China is leading in military power in Asia even as its economy has flattened out.

India is rising — but slower than expected.

Even as India overtakes Japan to rank third in Asia, the API report said that India’s rise has been slower than people expected.

The report suggests that India has considerable unrealized potential for exercising influence east of the Malacca Strait.
