From the point of view of the creative industry, India will play host to the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit for the first time in February 2024-a pathbreaker, indeed. The global platform aims at showcasing and promoting India as a creator of world-class content, further developing collaborations among industry leaders with the aim to showcase the nation’s great creative talent.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has explained the reason behind holding the WAVES Summit on his recent ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio address. Drawing analogies to prestigious events like that of the World Economic Forum held in Davos, Modi said leaders from the media and entertainment sectors, along with creators around the world, will storm Delhi from February 5-9.
“The Summit marks an important milestone in making India a content creation hub for the Global Community,” Modi said while highlighting the huge involvement of youths in the preparations, synonymous with the dynamic spirit and changing texture of India’s vibrant creative community.
The Prime Minister has also shown pride in their dynamism, which is contributing to fast-growing creator economy, crucial in India’s journey of turning itself into a five trillion dollar economy. He thus invited all stakeholders of the entertainment and creative segments to be actively involved with the program:
“Whether you are a young creator or an established artist, associated with Bollywood or regional cinema, a professional from the TV industry, or an innovator in entertainment technology, I encourage you to be part of the WAVES Summit.”.
Not only will the WAVES Summit prove to be an excellent platform for India’s creative talents, but the event will also showcase major achievements in animation, gaming, entertainment technology, and mainstream or regional cinema.
Modi recalled the 100 birth anniversaries of film director Raj Kapoor and film singer Mohammed Rafi during his address. He praised Kapoor for his films, which reflected the soft power of India, and which are still remembered by the people today, and celebrated Rafi’s mesmerizing voice, which still echoes among generations of music lovers.
Modi recalled the role of Akkineni Nageswara Rao in taking Telugu cinema to newer heights and Tapan Sinha’s films, which reflected social consciousness and created an awakening sense of unity. These legends, he said, shaped not only the golden era of Indian cinema but also enriched India’s cultural heritage and left behind a legacy that continues to inspire future generations.
