The Indian government, on Wednesday, issued a travel advisory asking people to avoid travel to Iran as tensions in the Middle East mount. The warning was issued after Iran launched close to 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday night. The advisory also said Indian nationals presently residing in Iran should remain in contact with the Indian embassy in Tehran.
“We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation in the region. Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran. Those present in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and keep the Indian Embassy in Tehran informed,”
The Centre said.
This worsening conflict forces several Gulf airlines to reorganize their routes to ensure passenger safety. Neighboring countries have shut their airspaces, compelling airline crews to find detours.
Etihad Airways announced a plan to reroute some flights on Wednesday because of airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East. Meanwhile, the airline is closely monitoring the security updates in the setup as the situation develops.
Emirates Airlines has canceled all flights to/from Iraq, Iran, and Jordan scheduled on 2 and 3 October. The airline is closely monitoring the regional developments and contacting the relevant authorities. Emirates Airlines has temporarily suspended all flights to and from Iraq and Iran due to airspace closures.
Flydubai, on its part, said it would cancel Oct 2 and 3 flights to Jordan, Iraq, Israel, and Iran due to the temporary airspace closure. Kuwait Airways announced that “due to the current security threat, in the interest of ensuring passengers’ safety, Kuwait Airways had to make some route adjustments on its services, hence changes in destination timings.”
