The Ministry of External Affairs fully supported the ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, announced yesterday, and reiterated India’s consistent call for “de-escalation, restraint, and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the MEA said, “We welcome the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon. We have always called for de-escalation and hope these developments will lead to peace and stability in the wider region.”
The ceasefire comes after months of intense clashes, largely stemming from the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, which escalated significantly in September following the deaths of several key leaders of the Lebanese militant group.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed his recognition of the outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden for his role in the ceasefire agreement, thanking him for his intervention. Netanyahu, in a phone call, expressed his gratitude for Biden’s understanding that Israel would still have the freedom to act in maintaining the ceasefire deal, according to Netanyahu’s office.
