On President Biden’s recent statement noting ‘xenophobia’ inside Asian countries, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar responded that India stands apart as the symbol of open society. In an interview with the Economic Times, he said India’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is one of the many proofs of a supportive and kind community.
He pointed out that CAA bears injustice to people having trouble, requesting that India welcome those with a valid entry claim. Biden had brought up that the delayed development of countries like India is caused by xenophobia and the negative stereotype against immigrants among people as opposed to the USA, which is catching up because it has been welcoming immigrants who are working hard like Americans.
Jaishankar responded that he has no way back confidence in India’s economy. He said that
India was not always closed to people with different cultural backgrounds and societies, as people from various places now dominate it. He ridiculed those who spread lies, implying that a million Muslims would not retain their citizenship because of the CAA, reminding them that no one lost citizenship as a result of the CAA.
CAA expects to expedite the process of acquiring Indian citizenship by the non-Muslim refugees from nearby countries. On the other hand, opposition has held the NRC process, in which Muslims are out, as contradictory to the principles of justice and equality. The BJP ruling party charges the opposition as cheating minority groups who control the political scene.
The statement on behalf of the White House specified that President Biden only has deep respect to all friends and partners and that his speech earlier was a component of a broader message on the importance of the immigrant heritage in the United States of America.
