IndiGo denies poor ranking in airhelp report 2024

Low-cost carrier IndiGo on Thursday strongly rejected the findings of a recent report that put it among the worst airlines in the world for 2024. The ‘AirHelp Score report 2024’ ranked IndiGo 103rd among 109 airlines evaluated, with Air India ranking 61st and AirAsia 94th.

In a statement, IndiGo said that the DGCA, the aviation regulator in India, publishes monthly data on airline punctuality and customer complaints. The airline said it has consistently topped the charts in on-time performance and has the lowest customer complaint ratio among comparable airlines in terms of fleet and network size.

IndiGo argued that the report produced by a claim processing agency from Europe does not specify the sample size from India, and does not state the methodology or compensation guidelines used in the global aviation industry and hence it is not credible.

“As India’s most preferred airline, IndiGo refutes the findings of this survey and reaffirms its commitment to providing on-time, affordable, courteous, and hassle-free travel experiences for customers,” stated the airline.

According to DGCA data, between January and September this year, IndiGo carried over 72.5 million passengers, with a market share of 61.3 percent. In comparison, Tata Group-owned Air India flew over 16.4 million passengers, with a market share of 13.9 percent. With a fleet of more than 380 aircraft, IndiGo runs around 2,100 flights daily, connecting over 85 domestic destinations and more than 30 international destinations.

Brussels Airlines, Qatar Airways, and United Airlines topped the AirHelp report. This annual ranking, which assesses data from January to October, looks at factors such as customer claims, on-time performance, and traveler feedback across 54 countries, considering elements like food quality, seating comfort, and crew service.
