Inquiry launched after student’s eye injury at primary school

A critical accident in Bhogpur Mithoni Primary School has raised eyebrows after a report of a serious eye injury to a Class 3 student, which resulted in the loss of an eye. This has led to allegations against school principal Geeta Karal, as noted by a school education department official on Wednesday.

The inquiry into the case was begun on the strength of a complaint made by the victim’s mother, Jyoti Kashyap, to the District Magistrate. According to the complaint, the hurt to her daughter, Himanshi, has been inflicted by the actions of the principal, which have been graded as causing grievous hurt.

Principal Geeta Karal refuted the allegations in response to the accusations, stating that Himanshi had poor eyesight even before the incident. Karal added that the injury occurred when a student named Benazeer accidentally knocked Himanshi’s face with her elbow while she was working, which caused huge swelling around the eye.

Violence escalated when Jyoti Kashyap visited the school on the same day seeking a medical certificate from the principal, which was allegedly denied. The principal emphasized that she lacked the autonomy to produce such reports, prompting Jyoti to allegedly threaten her.

Moradabad Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA) Ajit Kumar on Thursday announced that a probe has been launched, and it will be done by Additional BSA Shivam Gupta. Kumar assured that the inquiry will probe the issue thoroughly, with the required action to be undertaken after the investigation is complete.
