Jailed gangster’s family backs him, demands apology from Salman Khan

Bollywood star who had been sentenced to five years in jail with a criminal conviction for black buck hunting. The appeal was made when the controversy regarding acting grew, with fresh threats emerging against the actor.

The situation intensified after former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead in Mumbai on October 12 night, for which the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility.

“Salman Khan should apologize. His family is playing with our religious sentiments. If Salman Khan does not apologize, the law will do its job,” Ramesh told NDTV.

It dates back to 1998 when Salman Khan was charged for hunting blackbuck while filming the movie ‘Hum Sath Sath Hain’ in Jodhpur.

Blackbuck is sacred among the Bishnoi community. In 2018, he was held guilty by Rajasthan High Court and was sentenced to five years of imprisonment. He was granted bail when he challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court.

Lawrence Bishnoi, who has been behind bars since 2015 due to several serious criminal charges, had in 2018 told a court that he wanted Salman Khan’s life for hurting the sentiments of the Bishnoi community.

Salman Khan has received several threats recently, reportedly from members of the Bishnoi gang. Following this development, the security at his apartment and farmhouse has been increased.

Ramesh, a cousin of Bishnoi, said everyone in the Bishnoi community was angry when the black buck hunting occurred. He added that they are also ready to sacrifice themselves to save animals.
