The Fourth arrest was made in Canada over the Khalistani leader’s killing.
India has said it is open to investigating any incident in Canada if credible evidence is shared, as Canada announced the arrest of a fourth Indian national in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar responded to the development, noting India is yet to receive anything specific from Canada on the case.
Identified as 22-year-old Amandeep Singh, the suspect was in police custody in Ontario on unrelated charges when Canadian authorities announced his arrest in connection with Nijjar’s killing.
A resident of Brampton and Abbotsford towns, he is alleged to have split his time between the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario and Surrey-Abbotsford cities of British Columbia.
Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) Superintendent Mandeep Mooker stated the arrest displays the ongoing probe’s nature to apprehend all involved in the homicide.
Nijjar, charged with attempted murder in India, was shot dead at a Surrey temple last year. While Canada conducts further investigations into the four arrests so far, India says it stands ready to examine any evidence shared regarding violence with Indian links on Canadian soil.
