Jaishankar reaffirms India’s firm stance on China, Pakistan issues

Writing on the wall, newly appointed Indian Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar, In a clear-cut term, has stood for Indian preparedness and the non-compromising position of India on key regional issues with China and Pakistan. Starting his tenure on Tuesday, Jaishankar said it very clear that both the issue of borders with China, where India has a dispute and that of terrorism from Pakistan will be dealt with by India’s government sternly.

In the third press conference of the election, Jaishankar speaking address the media on the importance of the ruling party, said that the incumbent party has achieved a historic triumph of three successive victories. This is a basic rule in any democracy. Therefore, he pointed out that the world will feel that India has political stability since this government has been elected three consecutive times.

Expressing India’s strategy based on the current diplomacy, Jaishankar said that with China, India will have international border problems solved. With Pakistan, India wants to address the age-old cross-border terrorism issue.

Jaishankar, a career diplomat with years of experience, has allegations that have been leveled at him for aptly vocalizing India’s positions on matters within and outside of the country, such as handling the energy exports with Russia amidst the Ukraine issue to have a clear stance towards an aggressive China. His strengths during his previous term include having focused on foreign policy issues in the domestic political debate during India’s G20 presidency.

Jaishankar’s renewal means carrying on with a strong and appropriate foreign policy needed to meet India’s new government’s diverse regional security challenges.
