Jammu and Kashmir witnesses surge in terrorist attacks

What is even more concerning is that Jammu & Kashmir has been subjected to a spate of terrorist attacks over the past few days, for which the security forces have immediately reacted.

The latest act of terrorism took place on the evening of January 01 in the region of Kathua district when two terrorists fired at a village. Accordingly, the exchange of fire with the security forces was carried out, and both the terrorists were subsequently killed while a paramilitary soldier was killed in the operation.

Earlier in the day, another incident on the same day spiraled in Doda district, where a police and Rashtriya Rifles search party came face to face with terrorists at an army post at Chattargala. It led to a rather serious conflict that caused injuries to five soldiers and a special police officer. The confrontation is still protracted in the zone of the area’s upper level.

These mishappenings occurred only two days after an unfortunate act of violence targeting a bus with pilgrims going to the Shiv Khori cave temple in Reasi district. Touching on the incident, the bus was attacked by terrorists and ended up derailing into a gorge. It led to the death of nine passengers, while 33 others were left seriously injured.

More details of the incidents can be given by Anand Jain, the Additional Director General of Police, Jammu zone, in-charge of anti-terrorist operations. About the attack in Kathua, he clarified that one civilian was injured in the firing, and there were no multiple contingencies as had been reported earlier. He also referred to the attack as a ‘new invasion’ by the country’s ‘ unfriendly neighbor’, which, of course, means Pakistan.

Security-wise, Jammu has been fairly less prone to such activities in the past, but these latest raids have virtually demolished such an imagery. Security forces have wasted no time in responding, and people are being killed in the shootouts as they try to disarm them.

Unfortunately, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have become victims of terrorism for a long time now, and these recent attacks are a stark reminder of how conspicuous terrorists remain in the region; therefore, the call for a contingent of effort and probably a more stringent approach in countering terrorism.

While the authorities try to determine how the perpetrators of those acts were funded and why they set fires to three houses in Kinshasa, the priority stays on preventing the people from getting harmed.
