J&K Assembly scuffle: BJP and NC clash over Article 370.

The scuffle erupted when MP Engineer Rashid’s brother, Sheikh Khursheed, showed a banner that read, “Restore Article 370 and release all political prisoners.”.

The stormy note in Jammu and Kashmir began when the brother of the MP Engineer Rashid and Independent legislator Sheikh Khursheed came into the Well of the House with a banner demanding the restoration of Article 370 and the release of all political prisoners.

A scuffle ensued when the BJP legislators stormed the Well, too, trying to snatch the banner away from Khursheed. Sajad Lone, Waheed Para, and a few National Conference members also jumped to the rescue of Khursheed.

At least three MLAs were marshalled out on the directions of Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.

This comes a day after the Assembly passed a resolution on special status, seeking a “dialogue” with the Union Territory’s elected representatives for restoration of the same and constitutional guarantees “and to work out constitutional mechanisms for restoring these provisions.” BJP MLAs stormed the Well of the House yesterday as well when the resolution was moved.

While the scuffle ensued, PDP’s Waheed Para and Fayaz Mir and Peoples Conference’s Sajad Gani Lone brought another resolution seeking the restoration of the special status. Sheikh Khursheed also signed the resolution.
