J&K LG Manoj Sinha criticizes politicians for skipping foundation day

Like People’s Conference chief Sajad Gani Lone and CPI(M) chief Mohammad Yousuf Trigamy, it cited people “clearly voting” against the move and skipped the function.

The erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was turned into a Union Territory in 2019 after Article 370, which granted the state a special status, was abrogated.

He said, “Jammu and Kashmir is a Union Territory. We shall have to accept that reality. The PM and the Home Minister have said in parliament that delimitation should be first, elections second, and statehood at the appropriate time.”

The LG called the five years of the UT “an era of peace, prosperity, and development.”

Sinha commented on the delay in the Panchayat and urban local body elections, saying these polls had to be postponed due to some constitutional issues.

The Panchayati Raj institutions and the ULBs have significantly contributed to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

There were Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, and reservation for OBCs was not extended yet,” he said.

“Now Parliament has passed it, I am sure preparations are being made for those polls in coming days,” he added.
