CCTV footage has surfaced from a gym in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, showing the last moments of a woman before her gym trainer murdered her. She is seen inside the gym wearing a red T-shirt and black pants on the day of the incident.
The woman’s body was recovered on Saturday, four months after her alleged murder, in a VVIP area near the bungalow of the District Magistrate of Kanpur. The police said the accused, identified as Vimal Soni, a trainer in the gym situated in the Green Park area, during interrogation, confessed to burying the body of the woman at a place demarcated for government officials only. The woman had been missing since June 24, following which investigations revealed that she was dead.
The police maintained the body was recovered from that part of the residential camp of the District Magistrate, which comprises a camp office. The other portion of the house is used by the bureaucrat and his family, while a security picket is nearby.
It’s a mere kilometer between the body lay buried and the place where the accused was working and the victim a member. The woman was a gym member for two and a half years.
According to DCP North Kanpur Shravan Kumar Singh, the woman was upset about the trainer’s wedding being finalized. She returned to the gym on the day of the incident after a gap of 20 days, and following a tete-e-tete, the two moved into a car. A row broke out, following which Soni reportedly punched her in the neck. The victim fainted, and he murdered her, he said.
