Kanpur transformer theft ends in tragedy for injured thief

In a shocking turn of events, a transformer theft that took place in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, ended with one of the thieves getting a severe electric shock after he came into contact with a live wire. The injured man was identified as 22-year-old Himanshu and was subsequently thrown into the Ganga River by his accomplices.

The incident took place in the Colonelganj area of Kanpur. Himanshu was a scrap dealer engaged in transformer thefts from different city areas. His gang had already suffered some legal action against their crimes. As many as five thieves, including Shan Ali, Aslam, Vishal, and Ravi, had reached the Gurudev Palace intersection on October 26 to steal a transformer.

Himanshu received an electric shock at the time of the robbery, and instead of showing mercy, his accomplices panicked, tied his hands and legs, and threw him alive into the river from the Shuklaganj bridge.

When Himanshu did not return home, his mother, Manju Devi, lodged a missing report at Gwaltoli police station on October 31. Based on this, Shan Ali Aslam and Vishal were arrested.

The accused persons, during interrogation by police, narrated the sequence of events leading to the electric shock and disposal of Himanshu. The site of the transformer theft was examined by investigators, who recovered the evidence that corroborated the suspects’ testimony.

In a video clip, the four accused are seen putting the boy, Himanshu, in an auto-rickshaw and driving away in the direction of Shuklaganj, where they threw him into the river. Since then, search parties have been dispatched to trace his body.

The three suspects arrested were taken to court and remanded to jail pending ongoing investigations.
