Governor sanctions prosecution of Karnataka CM in MUDA land scam case.
In a major development, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has granted sanction to prosecute Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the alleged MUDA land scam case.
The Governor approved the prosecution based on separate petitions filed by activists Pradeep Kumar, TJ Abraham, and Snehamayi Krishna, accusing Siddaramaiah of irregularities and corruption.
Welcoming the decision, BJP state chief BY Vijayendra said Siddaramaiah has been proven corrupt with sufficient evidence. However, Congress alleged the Governor was delaying action on complaints against other leaders.
The Governor had issued a notice last month directing Siddaramaiah to respond to allegations of causing losses to the exchequer. This prompted the cabinet to advise withdrawing the notice, accusing misuse of office.
The case pertains to the alleged illegal allotment of 14 alternative sites, including to CM’s wife, in Mysuru causing losses of Rs 45 crore. Abraham had filed an FIR naming Siddaramaiah, his family, and officials.
Krishna too leveled charges of involvement in fraudulent land registration with the connivance of revenue officers.
While the CMO confirmed receiving the order, Congress claimed it was politically motivated. BJP has demanded a CBI probe into the “multi-crore scam”.
