Karnataka HC halts probe into ‘French fries’ dispute, criticizes misuse

Recently, Karnataka High Court has restrained from interrogating a man for restraining his wife from eating French fries of delivery taken in the US.

Justice M. Nagaprasanna said the allegations leveled against the man were petty, and as such, he refrained from continuing with the investigation.

In his ruling, the judge said that it could be prejudicial for the court and an abuse of the legal process to allow the investigation to continue.

To allow any investigation against the husband would amount to abuse of the process of law and putting a premium on the allegations of the wife that she was not given to eat French fries at the relevant point in time. For this reason, there shall be an interim order of stay on all investigations qua the husband, the judge said.

The woman’s husband, who works in the United States, also received permission to resume working after he promised the court that he would not avoid the investigation process.

The man petitioned also to halt the investigation, stating that the complaint was mere harassment. The lawyer told our reporter that a Look Out Circular (LOC) had been served on him and he was barred from going back to the US for any reason after his wife complained to the authorities.

The court has quashed the complaint over investigations were started previously against the parents of the man as well. The wife, in her complaint, accused the husband of denying her right to take French fries, rice, and meat a few weeks after giving birth.
