Karnataka’s Home Minister, G Parameshwara, revealed that investigating agencies are working diligently to determine if the two accused individuals arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Rameshwaram cafe blast have any connections to other terrorist organizations. Praising the state police for their contributions, Parameshwara mentioned that crucial inputs provided by them played a significant role in apprehending the suspects. Currently, the accused have been remanded to 10-day police custody.
Notably, CCTV footage captured the Rameshwaram blast suspects at a guest house in Kolkata, further adding to the ongoing investigation. Parameshwara expressed his appreciation for the joint efforts of the NIA and Karnataka police, emphasizing their meticulous work. He cited specific details shared by the state police, such as the cap worn by one of the accused, which was traced back to a purchase in Chennai, and the telephone number provided at a shop.
Authorities are actively exploring potential ties between the blast incident and other acts of terrorism, including the previous Shivamogga blast. The minister disclosed that the suspects had evaded capture for several days before being arrested in this case. Moreover, there are concerns that the accused might have intended to flee to Bangladesh from West Bengal, where they were eventually apprehended.
As the investigation progresses, efforts are underway to ascertain the motives behind the blast and establish any connections to various terrorist outfits, potentially including ISIS. Parameshwara highlighted the border location of West Bengal with Bangladesh and the possibility of external assistance, urging a comprehensive examination of these aspects. Both suspects hail from Shivamogga in Karnataka and were acquainted with each other through their shared educational background.
The recent arrests made in Kolkata and the coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies signify a significant step forward in the Rameshwaram cafe blast case. The authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring the safety and security of the region.
