The political crisis in Karnataka has not subsided yet. Home Minister G Parameshwara has charged that BJP former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa will be arrested in POCSO if needed.
Yediyurappa had been accused of molesting a 17-year-old female, and in this regard, a case was filed against him. Regarding this, the police have issued a nonbailable warrant arrest warrant for him. Now, the 80-year-old BJP leader has moved the Karnataka High Court and has filed a petition under Section 438 pertaining to anticipatory bail, which will likely come up for a hearing on Friday.
Responding to the media question, Karnataka Health Minister said: Well, I can’t comment on that issue, but let me tell you one thing: that law does not differentiate between anyone. The law did not do anything in that incident. The police will act according to the law.
The case was registered in the Sadashivanagar PS on 14/3/2015 based on the complaint made by the girl’s mother. She complained that the act took place on February 2, when they went to seek assistance from a senior BJP member in a cheating case.
Karnataka’s former Chief is several times Yediyurappa who, has dismissed the allegations and described them as absurd. Basavaraj Bommai later became the 23rd Chief Minister of the state after the former, who took office in the period beginning from July 2021 to May 2023.
With Bommai being declared BJP’s candidate for the Haveri constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, many have started deciphering that the BJP may be planning a leadership change in Karnataka.
Putting the curtain on the POCSO case investigation, the political governance in Karnataka has not stabilised yet as the former Chief Minister’s severity is unclear.
