Tensions Escalate as AAP, BJP Trade Barbs over Assault Allegations.
Delhi has seen an escalation in rhetoric between the AAP and BJP, with allegations and counter-allegations being traded. It stems from an assault complaint lodged by AAP MP Swati Maliwal against Arvind Kejriwal’s former aide Bibhav Kumar.
In a stern message, Maliwal reminded how the CM had led protests for the Nirbhaya case but is now defending an accused. She questioned why the same zeal wasn’t shown for jailed Sisodia, inferring things may have been different.
Maliwal has accused Kumar of repeatedly slapping and kicking her during a meeting at the CM’s house on May 13th. Kumar’s arrest has focused on Arvind Kejriwal, who is facing queries for remaining silent.
Delhi Police claims evidence was tampered with, with CCTV footage deleted and phones formatted. The BJP has slammed the incident as a slur on women’s safety and dignity.
But the AAP has hit back, alleging a conspiracy to trap Maliwal in an ongoing case. Ministers have warned that more top leaders may face trumped-up charges.
Kejriwal upped the ante by announcing a protest march, accusing PM Modi of jailing Sisodia, Jain and Singh as part of a ploy. He said the BJP has now sent his PA to jail, and others could be next.
As a war of words rages, key questions remain over the sequence of events and responsibility. Both sides are pulling no punches in an acrimonious spat.
