Kejriwal slams PM Modi over opposition to free rides for women

In a scathing attack, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister, has charged Prime Minister Narendra Modi with being one of the main forces that quashed the scheme that allowed women to travel for free in the national capital. Kejriwal questioned this discrimination by asking why free travel should benefit women only when the PM and other ministers are not isolated.

In X’s write-up ‘Women CM and AAP National Convenor who is currently on temporary bail in the liquor policy case,’ Kejriwal wrote, ‘The Prime Minister is swallowing up women that there should be no free bus travel for women in Delhi. Women of India want free bus travel across the country, but Modi wants to remove it. If the prime minister and her ministers can avail.

Apart from that, the Delhi CM also tweeted an excerpt from Modi’s media address on his views on the matter in which he criticizes it. As per the Delhi CM, free bus services increase pollution levels since 50% of the people who would otherwise use buses or rely on the mass transport system would prefer to use the free bus service, thus eliminating them from the metro service.

Today, the AAP government gave women, students, older citizens, and transgender communities free trips on DTC buses in the capital, New Delhi. Kejriwal’s harsh retort in the PM’s room further underlines the political strains shared by AAP and the BJP-led national administration.
