Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is on interim bail in a money laundering case linked to the now peripheral Delhi liquor policy scam scheme. He plans to appear before the prison authorities on Sunday.
The AAP chief and Kejriwal were granted interim bail by the apex court until June 1 on the pretext of the ongoing campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. Speaking to the media on Friday, Kejriwal said that he would leave his residence at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
To this, the Delhi CM responded that he has confidence in his team and assured them that work in the state will not be parceled during his absence. “They may this time perhaps even torture me more, but I will not bend down; wherever I live, inside or outside, I make it a point not to allow the work of Delhi to cease.”
He further committed to continuing existing schemes like free electricity, Mohalla Clinics, Hospitals, free medicines, and treatments. He further said that he would open accounts of ₹1,000 each for every mother and sister in the city monthly.
Over his health, Kejriwal complained that he had been losing weight while in jail and was a grave health risk, accusing the Pakistan authorities of having possibly stopped his medicines and torturing his person in various forms.
“My weight when I got arrested was 70 kg, and today it is 64 kg, though it has been several weeks after I was released from prison. Nurses suggested that there could also be some serious disease in the body. It is also stated that many tests need to be done.
Taking responsibility for his parents, Kejriwal said, “I have always served you like a son, and today you are like my family members.I want to request the people of Delhi that they take care of my elderly parents as they do not remain fit nowadays.”
The Supreme Court had earlier in the week rejected to grant an extension for Kejriwal’s interim bail. It said that since Kejriwal was granted freedom to approach the trial court for regular bail, this was not tenable.
