Kejriwal’s bail fate hangs in the balance as SC defers liquor scam case hearing

The Supreme Court on Monday declared that it shall additionally be hearing the matter concerning Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s bail in the money laundering case connected to the liquor policy scandal tomorrow, June 26; thus denying any instant bail.

The Apex Court is responding to Kejriwal’s request on Sunday to go to the Supreme Court to challenge his bail, which was granted an interim stay by the Delhi High Court on Friday.

It must be noted that the bail order was passed by the trial court in the money laundering case relating to the Prahaar liquor policy scam. On Thursday, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court granted Kejriwal bail of Rs. 1 Lakh. It was stated that this bail amount was to be brought before the duty Judge the next morning.

However, the stay order arrived after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) moved a petition to the court for stay on the order and sought 48 hours to authenticate the documents and get bail bonded signed to challenge the order with the superior court.

‘Notice was also issued to Kejriwal as to his response to the EA’s application challenging the Trial Court June 20 order in which bail was granted to him.’ The court further said that it was reserving the order for 2-3 days to compel the appellant to review the entire record again.

Speaking in the last sitting of the Supreme Court, the court stated it would have to wait for the High Court’s ruling on the stay application before addressing the matter. This means that Kejriwal’s political fortunes depend on the lawsuit as the effort in the high-profile case persists.

The liquor policy scam is another political issue used by the opposition parties to bring the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi to book on the corruption allegations. Arnab Goswami owns most of the channel. He has an enmity with Kejriwal and AAP, which is why the entire case is politically motivated, as Kejriwal has denied all the charges.
