Kejriwal’s bail in liquor case: Impact on politics and 2024 polls

Notably, AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have been recently acquitted in the much talked about liquor policy matter. Like what Kejriwal’s lawyer had claimed – ED has no proof against the AAP chief.

This way, the court verdict is expected to lead to Kejriwal’s release from jail by tomorrow as soon as the bai order has reached there.

A Delhi court has noted that Kejriwal’s lawyer has challenged the ED’s entire case against the AAP chief as unreliable due to statements recorded by the agency claiming that its entire evidence came from those who turned approver in the case.

The court did not permit the ED to sign the bail bond at least 48 hours since it would allow the central agency ample time to quash the decision to release the accused person on bail.

The statements it was of those people who have confessed to being guilty of carrying out the heinous act and are not here laid as saints. They are the tainted ones, and it seems that some of those arrested were told that they would be granted bail and later granted pardons for probably influencing the commission of the act.

The ED had arrested Kejriwal on March 21 over money laundering allegations to frame the Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22 financial year which was subsequently withdrawn after the Lt. Governor raised certain concerns. The ED has said that the money received by Kejriwal from the liquor sellers was utilized for the Goa election as he is the Aam Aadmi Party convenor.

From the beginning of the case, Kejriwal and AAP claimed that the Centre’s agencies “are using false cases to target the political opposition.”
