Pending the CBI case, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has remanded AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal to judicial custody till August 27, 2024. AAP’s Chief Ministerial candidate and its national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, is still in jail in connection with an alleged Delhi Liquor Policy scam, and he has received interim bail in another ED case.
Last week, the Supreme Court dismissed the capital post-arrest interveinal bail application and issued notice to the CBI on the Delhi CM’s bail application and challenge to arrest.
Shri Abhishek M. Singhvi for Kejriwal submitted that three bail orders had been passed in favor of Kejriwal, one in May 2021, the second in June 2021, and another regular bail in the ED case, which was, however, stayed by the High Court. Singhvi described Kejriwal’s arrest as an ‘insurance arrest’ before terming the action by CBI as one taken in anticipation of a favorable judgment in the case before ED.
Singhvi’s prayer to seek interim bail on health grounds was rejected, though the Supreme Court expressed its desire not to grant any relief in this regard. The next hearing is to commence on August 23.
Before that, on 5 August, the Delhi High Court refused Kejriwal’s petition for smelling a rat in the CBI’s arrest, saying it saw no reason to label the arrest arbitrary. The case concerning the ED remains in the High Court.
