Kejriwal’s resignation announcement sparks BJP criticism

When Kejriwal said he would resign as Delhi’s Chief Minister within two days and campaign in the “people’s court,” the BJP reacted quickly, suggesting this move could be due to infighting in the AAP. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva condemned Kejriwal, saying corruption has eroded the leadership in Delhi.

“You did not resign when you were in jail, although now you want to resign in the next 48 hours. What is a logical reason for this time frame that you are giving to the public?”

Said Trivedi. He highlighted his account that Kejriwal recently left the Supreme Court on bail in a corruption case involving Delhi’s now repealed liquor policy, with directions to refrain from entering the office or signing official documents needed besides the Lieutenant Governor.

Trivedi also wondered why Kejriwal had to resign in the Zapad fury, wondering if there was some tension between Kejriwal on the one side and the two other members of the faction on the other side.

“If elections are wanted, then why not have a cabinet meeting and prorogue the Assembly?”

he asked.

These feelings were also reflected by Delhi BJP chief Manoj Sachdeva, who said that after a decisive verdict from the public in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the AAP chief had sought a public verdict on him. “I said it; the people have already spoken,” he said, pointing at various shortcomings in the government, such as forty children who died due to poor drainage control.

The ruling Congress, which had an alliance with AAP in the Lok Sabha polls, described Kejriwal’s resignation move as a political stunt. According to Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav, this act has no meaning as Kejriwal failed to continue his governance under the stringent conditions of the Supreme Court. ” They want change now,” he also said.

In defense of Kejriwal, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the Chief Minister has always had faith in the public and has taken daring ventures throughout his career. Similarly, Minister Atishi took cudgels on behalf of Kejriwal and said that Kejriwal is quite serious about his slogan of corruption-free politics and public services, which led him to make such a sensational announcement. “He tells the uncensored truth, and because of that, he is always questioning the existing paradigm,” she said.
