Kerala Bishop loses ₹15 Lakh to cyber fraudsters Posing as CBI

The bishop said that he also received a one-hour later video call, and what he saw on the video call was an office with a CBI emblem and some officers.

Kochi: The police in Keezhvaipur have lodged the first information report FIR in a case of alleged cyber fraudsters on the basis of the complaint lodged by a Kerala bishop who was cheanted of Rs. 15 lakh.

Former Niranam diocese metropolitan under the Malankara Jacobite Syriac Orthodox Church Bishop Geevarghese Mar Coorilos received a call purportedly from ‘Mumbai Cyber’ on August 2.

The bishop opined that he took the call and answered to a man who said he was the cyber police and that his account was used in a money laundering case.

The caller was informing me that my bank account is probably being abused by the accused in the money laundering case, and this case is handled by the CBI, said Coorilos, who lodged a complaint at the Keezhvaipur police station.

The bishop also claimed to receive a video call an hour later and stated that the said call showed him an office with an emblem suggesting it belongs to the CBI as well as some officers.
